Heartwarming story from Jenny Brown

Hello,

I hope you are all staying warm! I wanted to share a heartwarming mission moment from this week. Enjoy :)

Lily, our job developer, recently attended Mary Beth Boerma's orientation for her new position and has shared some highlights from her story:

Mary Beth worked as a dining attendant at an assisted living facility for almost 21 years. Her favorite part of that job was "the nice people." She treated the women at the facility as if they were her own mother or grandmother and always knew exactly what they needed.

When that facility closed in 2016, Mary Beth knew she wanted to return to a similar job in the workforce. Nine years later, with Dutton’s support, she completed her orientation as a dining aide/server at Rochester Pomeroy Skill Building/Rehabilitation. When asked what she was most excited about in her new role, she replied, "I'm just happy."

Mary Beth is creative and artistic, and she uses her gifts to be a blessing to the community. She plans to spend her first paycheck on green and blue yarn to make baby hats, which she donates to pregnancy centers in Detroit.

It is a joy to witness the ways that Mary Beth's experience and thoughtfulness will bring immense value to the workforce as she serves the individuals at Pomeroy!
