Oakland University

Oakland University is collaborating with RHS to support our families and their loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through initiatives in three key areas:
Enabling Technology: Led by Dr. Wing-Yue Geoffrey Louie from the In Real Life Intelligent Robotics Lab, this long-term research project aims to enhance independence for people with IDD through assistive home and robotic technology. The effort includes assessing individual needs, identifying current technological solutions, and closely collaborating with end users to create a roadmap to develop new innovations.
Family and Resident Readiness: Directed by Dr. Maria Beam and her team of graduate social work students, this program offers independent living skills assessments and personalized readiness plans to help families prepare their loved ones for greater independence.
OUCARES: In partnership with Alicia Garcia, Director of the Joanne and Ted Lindsay Foundation Autism Outreach Services (OUCARES), RHS is developing tailored social and recreational activities for our residents, fostering meaningful connections and opportunities between the neighborhoods and Oakland University.
These initiatives leverage Oakland University's expertise to enhance the lives of RHS's residents with IDD and support their families.
